Renault Twizy electric car will be manufactured in Valladolid and will be sold in 2011.
The first electric car in Europe for the Renault brand will be manufactured in Valladolid and will be marketed in the second half of 2011, according to their timetable, revealed the president of the brand in Spain, Jean Pierre Laurent.
The model, called Twizy, costs between 5,000 and 6,000 euros in its basic version, and marketing will be accompanied by an appropriate network of recharging power points. First of all, it requires the approval of a plug that Renault expects during the current Spanish EU presidency. "It's the car of tomorrow" due to its small size, the virtual absence of air pollution and low noise in Laurent said yesterday after signing a cooperation protocol with the second vice president of the Junta de Castilla y León, Tomás Villanueva.
This new prototype is a "clear vision of sustainable mobility based on the maxim that the car" must adapt to the world" and not vice versa, and after Spain we will also manufacture in France and Turkey, although other different versions. The marketing calendar is very precise, said Laurent, between June 2010 and June 2011.
It is all a "strategy to prepare for the arrival" of the electric vehicle, in the words of Tomas Villanueva, the president of Renault-Spain considers the car will be "accessible to everyone" because of its low cost. The installation of a network of energy recharging posts, for which the company have already been in contact with some power companies, will be the next step towards the marketing of the product that Laurent has been defined as the "third revolution" Renault.
